ISO EN11611 Welding

Protective clothing for use in welding and allied processes.

The aim of this standard is to define the requirements that the design as well as the thermal protection may require for the manufacture of the clothing used by welders and similar. These garments have to protect the person against small metal splashes, the short flame contact and against the radiant heat.

It also defines some minimum parameters that fabrics have to comply, regarding the tear resistance, molten splashes, seams and the electric resistance.
This standard classifies the garment or the fabric in two protection levels depending on the drops of molten metal that the fabric may hold before the temperature of the calorimeter increases 40ºK. These levels are:
Class 1: minimum 15 drops.
Class 2: minimum 25 drops.

There are also two classifications for the radiant heat:

Class 1: RHTI24≥ 7 seconds.
Class 2: RHTI24≥ 16 seconds.

Protective clothing – Clothing to protect against heat and flame

The protective clothing which complies with this Standard is designed to protect these workers against a short flame contact and at least one type of heat (convective heat, radiant heat, contact heat, molten metal splashes).

This Standard also defines some minimum parameters that the fabrics have to comply with: Tear resistance, tear strength, burst strength and seam strength.
